Family wall hanging

I wanted to make a fun wall hanging for the entry way.  I immediately loved this pattern when I found it.  I let each of the girls pick their dress and I surprised my husband with the Ohio State nod.
It was very fun to make this appliqué piece.  I did simple stippling for the background of each main block and then an ‘x’ in each of the small blocks.
A funny side note ~ the star hanger is not set to hang level.  That absolutely drives my type A nuts!  My awesome husband gave me a ball magnet that is hidden from view, but adds just enough weight to make it hang straight.

changing pad cover and crib sheet

Because I’m posting this while out of town, I’m going to keep it short and sweet.  These are the changing pad cover and crib sheets I made for my youngest.  Most of the things I've made for his room are gray, because you can't find that color (yet) in baby things.

The tutorials are here and here.

Dot Party

I just finished binding my lap quilt called dot party.  I bought the pattern for this quilt several months ago and finally got it out and worked on the quilting two weeks ago.  I actually bought two along with a matching fat quarter for each pattern.  Then, I mailed one of the patterns and fat quarters off to Emily.  The goal was that we would each use that fat quarter and then any other fabric that we chose to finish one of the two circle size options of the pattern.

I added my feet in this one as I happened to have coordinating toe polish.
I chose the small circle.  Hind sight is always 20/20.  I think if I was to do this pattern again I would pick the larger circles.  I think it would lend to more options with the quilting.  I did a ditch for each square, stippling in the center of the pattern circles and stippling in the pattern around the white circles.  It ended up being way more work than I would have liked for the results.  Next time, an all over stipple for me.

For the back, I did a pieced variation of a giant log cabin block.

apples and oranges

With the leftover oilcloth I had (see previous post), I made placemats for our new dining room table. One side is apples and the other oranges, so the table can have a different look, depending on my mood. After cutting out the desired size of rectangles, I held the two pieces of oilcloth wrong sides together with hair clips. Placing some tissue paper on top, I sewed 1/2" seam all the way around. After ripping off the tissue paper, I simply trimmed the sides 1/4".  There are some wrinkles, but they should settle over time (and use!).
