Teacher gifts

I like to give each of the teachers a homemade end of the year gift.  It started out as a table runner that I would have all the kids sign.  But, last year my youngest was in a looping class (she had the same teacher for 1st and 2nd grade) so the second year I made her a zipper pouch.  I loved them so much that I have switched over to them as my new go to end of the year gifts.
They are really fun to make.  I used muslin and sewed straight lines to make it resemble paper.  I wish the picture came out clearer, it was hard to get the paper lines to show up.  Then I simply used a running stitch to add their name, along with a french knot for the period.  I love the scissors for the back and both insides are the same.

organized fabric

This is kind of a lame post, but it feels good to finally have my fabric organized (and another thing checked off my to-do list)!  I used to just shove fabric and scraps into my dresser drawer.  Now I can actually see what I have, and have a good idea how much.  Not pictured are the smaller scraps I organized by color and put in Ziploc bags (until I get some cute boxes to store them).

Hen's day out

I love this table runner.  I made it originally for our tv room coffee table.  But, now that the bookshelves that are by our stairs to the basement are done, I love it there.  I plan to find some fun pots and have succulents by the window.

table runner and coasters

This is a table runner I quilted with an all-over stipple.  For the most part, I'm happy with the way it turned out, but a few of the points were cut off.  It was difficult piecing when some were cut on the bias and others were not.

With the scraps I made coasters.  The back could also be the front, if and when I want a change.

Table runner

I am in a quilt group that meets once a week.  There are on any given week six of us.  One of the gals purchased an entire sewing room from a widower.  She found in the lot a bag containing six table runner kits.  We each were given one and I finished mine.

The blocks look quite complicated, but are merely comprised of flying geese and half square triangles.  It was a lot of fun to piece.  My quilting was quite simple as the back piece was darker and my bobbin insisted on wanting to come to through to the top.  On the blocks themselves I stitched in the ditch.  Then I did a bit of meandering on the inside border and stippling on the outer border.
